Campaign Variable Tool

Use the Campaign Variable tool to check the value of a variable for a specific recipient. You can use the information in a number of areas, including campaign Triggers and Tracks. You can also use the tool to compare variables within a track.

Procedure

1. Drag the tool to the Workspace. The following screen will be displayed:

2. Click the Choose variable drop-down.
3. Select the required variable from the displayed drop-down. This includes global variables set up in Campaign Manager or campaign variables set up on the Variables tab.
4. Select [Scheduled Run Number] to split up a set of recipients to various number of batches and implement tactic on the different batches at different times when using an On a schedule node. For example: A set of 1000 recipients are divided into 10 batches with 100 in a batch. Each recipient in the batch is assigned a campaign recipient variable value that correspond to the batch number. The variable value for the first batch of recipients would be set to 1, second batch to 2 and so on.
   1. Change the column type from text to database.
   2. Click in the Enter Column Name field and select New in the generic selector.
   3. Select System Variable.
   4. Choose the system variable from the list.

The On a schedule node checks if the campaign variable Scheduled Run Number matches the Campaign recipient variable value. When the On a schedule is first processed, the Scheduled Run Number is one and the recipients whose variable value is 1 are processed in that batch. On the next run the next batch of recipients is processed.

5. Select the campaign that the variable will apply to. Leave the field blank to use the current campaign.
6. At the level above select the variable value(s) that you wish to select.

The resulting action, whether it is a segmentation or campaign trigger, will be based on the value of the selected variable for each recipient in the selected campaign.
